Kathryn is a fan of getting off work and heading to the movies; she loves it! Although she’s a tough critic, the joy of going to the theaters and watching a new movie always draws her in, and that big screen view is hard to beat. Kathryn prefers not to go see the newest movie out but wait a week or two after a movie has been out for a bit, that way Kathryn and her friends can hang out and really enjoy the movie. If you want to find out what’s playing in and around Lake Tahoe, here are a few of Kathryn’s suggestions:
David is very passionate about mountain biking. He loves the scenic views and trails that he encounters while out in the beautiful Lake Tahoe Basin. There are plenty of challenges available on Lake Tahoe’s mountain bike trials, but a few of David’s favorites are the Power Line Trail by Heavenly Valley Resort and some of the trails out in Christmas Valley. There are bikes for all skill levels available for rent around the Lake Tahoe Basin, and our resort offer free bike rentals for the cyclist looking for a casual ride. Victor has an enormous passion for cars. He buys many types of cars and fixes them up with great care and real skill. Victor and his friends also go to many car shows to get ideas for new styles and stare in amazement and appreciation at the latest in car design and accessories. Victor really has a knack for paying attention when someone is working the engine of a car and being able to take that skill and work on his own engines. His favorite part about fixing up a car is working on the stereos and installing car alarm systems. Anything to do with latest car technology amazes him. If you need help with your vehicle while visiting us in South Lake Tahoe, please check out these links or just ask Victor:
Shawn has a real talent on the drums. He’s been playing since he was twelve years old and loves to crush his way through a sweet drum solo, which he taught himself to play. Shawn enjoys playing his drums the most when he has other friends like Jesse who will rock out on his guitar with him. He is already planning on attending some of the indoor concerts offered in the casino showrooms and in some of our neighborhood bars like Mc P’s, located next to the Stardust Lodge, they have great local bands that play there and they don’t charge any cover. During Taylor’s free time, he likes to draw and paint. It can be digital, pencil, oil or acrylic. The photograph attached is of Taylor drawing using charcoal. Normally he creates his art while at home, but he also likes to step out somewhere and feel the energy of his art. Every now and then you can see him at one of the coffee shops, in the Heavenly Village or the Lake Tahoe Community College doing his artwork. Normally his artwork consists of characters that he makes up, but he can create pretty much anything… robots, ninjas, unicorns, abstract or anything you can imagine. Here are a few links to local art exhibits around the area:
Every year at the end of September, Elena will run in the Tahoe Half Marathon, just one of the many events she participates in. The race starts just south of Meeks Bay and finishes at Pope Beach in South Lake Tahoe. Elena loves this race because the views are serene, it is a smaller race – maybe because it is so challenging (difficult hills and the altitude), but crossing that finish line is definitely a great sense of accomplishment. To practice for this race, she scopes out challenging hills around town and really enjoys running through Kahle Meadow, Power Line Trail, and the meadow behind Denny’s. Nothing tops running in the mountains! Here are some links to local marathons and trails:
If it has to do with outdoor summer activities, you bet you will find Jose there. He loves to go out on Lake Tahoe and catch the wakes or learn new tricks on his wakeboard. He also loves to get in a boat and just cruise around on the Lake and into Emerald Bay; he looks forward to getting out on the water in warm weather all winter long. Jose has so much fun being in a boat on the water and being at the beaches during the summer, his favorite beach is Zephyr Cove because there is so much to do. You can go swimming, play volleyball, relax in the sun, and check out their parasailing and their boat and Jet Ski rentals. Anywhere you go in Tahoe you can enjoy being out in the 99.9% pure water and enjoying the warm weather. Here are links to some of the local water sports and other activities:
Jen likes to splurge some weekends and go to a coffee shop for a nice cup of java. Her preference is a white mocha…but any old coffee will do! Most of the time, she will walk over (with baby, dog and her husband in tow) to the coffee shop and spend the morning sitting outside, sipping coffee and enjoying the scenery…. that’s her favorite. There are some days that there is just not enough time for that, so she’ll pick up her drink and take it on whatever her next adventure is. While we all know about the big coffee chains…. try one of our great local places. Some even have great bagel sandwiches or pastries…mmm:
Lorena loves to go out and try new restaurants here in town (with her husband). Her new favorite place by far is Sushi Pier that just opened this past year and is located near the casinos on hwy 50 at Stateline, NV. This restaurant is always hopping, they have great music playing on the plasma TV’s and you can even catch the “GAME” depending what sports are on. She really enjoys the atmosphere of the restaurant; you can eat good food, socialize and have a great time. Inside the local coupon book, Sushi Pier has a coupon for a discount that anyone can use. Another great place Lorena likes to go to is Latin Soul inside Lakeside Casino. She goes there all the time for breakfast, where plates are no more that $4 per person.
